CD Projekt Red confirms new milestone for Cyberpunk sequel

CD Projekt Red confirmed that a sequel for Cyberpunk 2077 would be on the way last year with the announcement of its future games roadmap, including the new Cyberpunk game and a new Witcher trilogy. Developed under the codename Project Orion, the game has recently passed a new milestone.

In an update this week, CD Projekt Red confirmed that Project Orion has moved forward to the conceptual design stage, with a small team developing the core of the game and figuring things out.

CD Projekt Red is still staffing up for Project Orion, which will be developed by a team back in Poland, as well as a new main studio in the US. A number of key Cyberpunk 2077 developers have already moved over to the new project. By the end of 2024, CDPR's goal is to have a 50% ratio between the team members in the US and those in Poland.

It took eight years for Cyberpunk 2077 to release and another few years for the game to be truly completed with Update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty. Of course, CD Projekt Red also released The Witcher 3 back in 2015, only truly beginning work on Cyberpunk 2077 after that game's release.

With all of that in mind, it could well be five years before we get to see the next Cyberpunk game in action.

KitGuru Says: The changes to police, AI, combat and skill trees have made Cyberpunk 2077 a much more fun game for me. I'm itching for more but we'll have to be patient, as the next Cyberpunk game is still a long ways off.
