Astro Bot Rescue Mission to get PSVR2 port according to leaker

Just yesterday we reported on a bunch of new trademark filings by Sony across both the US and Europe pertaining to the much-loved though under-represented IP Astro Bot. We have heard little from the mascot ever since the PS5 pack-in title Astro’s Playroom. That said, according to one leaker the console manufacturer is planning to bring the 1st-gen PSVR platformer ‘Astro Bot Rescue Mission’ to current systems.

Following the discovery that PlayStation had trademarked the named Astro Bot in both the US and Europe last week, known industry insider Shpeshall_Nick took to Twitter to claim that they’re “Not sure it’s related but I’ve heard they’re doing a PSVR2 port of Astro.”

Astro Bot Rescue Mission was a VR platformer released back in 2018 for Sony’s first generation PlayStation VR headset. At the time, the game received universal acclaim from both critics and fans alike, with many deeming it to be a system-seller for the platform.

Unfortunately, due to the way in which the first PSVR was designed, none of the games released for it could be directly ported forward to PSVR2. As such, the much-loved title has been so far locked behind the antiquated platform.

While it would have been exciting to see a whole new game designed specifically for PSVR2, getting a port/remaster of Astro Bot Rescue Mission should help give the excellent platformer a second chance to impress a whole new audience. Hopefully it utilises all of the 2nd-gen headset’s unique features.
