Nintendo Switch 2 will reportedly feature an 8-inch LCD screen

With the Nintendo Switch well into its 7th year on the market, talk surrounding the prospects of a Switch 2 have begun to heat up. According to one industry insider, the long-awaited Switch sequel could come with some pretty major improvements – as well as a surprising downgrade.

In the wake of a report by VGC claiming that Nintendo is targeting a 2024 release for the Switch 2, industry insider ‘Nate the Hate’ spoke on these rumours and more during the most recent episode of their podcast.

According to the insider, the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature a “fairly significant amount of internal flash memory” when compared to the current-gen handheld hybrid, with it possibly even including a whole 512GB of storage. For context, the current base Switch comes with just 32GB (with the OLED model boosting this to 64GB).

One feature which will unfortunately see a downgrade from the current Switch is the screen. According to Nate, this new console will once again return to using an LCD panel. While its size will be increased to 8-inches (compared to the Switch’s 6.2 and the OLED’s 7 inches), the downgrade from the OLED model will be disappointing to see if this is indeed the case.

That said, while the launch Switch model came with a notoriously poor LCD panel, the technology itself is not inherently bad and you can get some really nice looking LCD screens. If Nintendo is planning to go back to LCD, then hopefully at the very least it will be a higher quality panel.

Finally, Nate spoke on the Switch 2’s production, claiming that it will likely begin during the first Quarter of 2024 – ahead of its supposed late 2024 release (with September-October being the alleged timeframe). Of course, all this should be taken with a pinch of salt, but it is exciting to see that we are seemingly finally beginning to hear actual details of this much-anticipated device.
