Avowed gets first gameplay trailer during Xbox Showcase

Xbox’s Game Showcase saw the console manufacturer offering updates on a number of its previously-announced titles. One of these was Avowed – a new game from RPG legends Obsidian Entertainment. Though we did not get a release date, the team showed off a bunch of gameplay for the first time including the title’s fast-paced combat.

Arriving sometime in 2024, Avowed is the latest game from Obsidian Entertainment – known for their work on the likes of Fallout New Vegas; Pillars of Eternity; South Park: The Stick of Truth; The Outer Worlds and more.

Speaking of Pillars of Eternity, Avowed is set in the world of Eora and will see players “embark on a journey through the Living Lands – a plagued, foreign island full of mysteries and secrets, danger and adventure, choices and consequences. It’s a land that feels foreign yet somewhat intrinsic to you; a place calling out for your help.”

Previously, all we saw from the game was a brief cinematic teaser released all the way back in July 2020. Interestingly, the teaser shared back then seemed to indicate a much darker experience tonally than what we were shown during the recent gameplay showcase – though that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

It is not unfair to compare what we have seen of Avowed to the likes of 2011’s Skyrim, with the aesthetics, combat and magic abilities all seemingly similar to the aforementioned Bethesda RPG. That said, it will be interesting to see how Obsidian Entertainment differentiates this title from its contemporaries. Hopefully we get to see more sooner rather than later.
