Potential new Ryzen Threadripper CPUs have been spotted

It appears that AMD is preparing two High-End Desktop (HEDT) series: a non-Pro version, possibly named the 7900X, and a Pro version named the 7905WX. That's according to the recent appearance of some product codes on AMD's official OPN code list.

Leaker @momomo_us has discovered the product codes for the next-generation AMD Threadripper series. These processors, based on the Zen4 architecture, will belong to the Threadripper 7000 series and bear product codes starting from 100-0000135x. AMD has officially listed these product codes in their OPN (Ordering Part Number) product list; however, the names corresponding to each SKU have not been revealed. Fortunately, a leak has recently surfaced, revealing the names associated with the new Threadripper series.

While it is too early to confirm whether both versions will be released to the market, some leakers suggest that the non-Pro variant may have limited capabilities due to the use of a smaller SP6 (LGA4844) socket. On the other hand, the Pro variant, designed for workstations, is expected to use the SP5 (LGA6096) socket. These sockets will incorporate modern technologies such as DDR5 memory support and a PCIe Gen5 interface.

According to current rumours, the Threadripper 7000 series launch is expected to take place next quarter (Q3). These processors are anticipated to offer at least 64 cores and 128 threads. However, it is worth noting that AMD has the flexibility to increase the core count by leveraging EPYC Genoa configurations, which can feature up to 96 cores.

KitGuru says: The fact that the OPN codes have been found on AMD's OPN code list strengthens the rumour regarding its release in Q3 2023. If that's indeed the case, we won't have to wait much longer before an official announcement.
