Sony announces PlayStation Showcase for next week

Back in April, it was rumoured that Sony would be going live early with its PlayStation Showcase, aiming to make its big announcements ahead of Summer Game Fest in June. Now, Sony has made this official, with the next PlayStation Showcase being announced for next week.

The PlayStation Showcase will air at 9PM BST on the 24th of May, exactly one week from today. The show will run for “a bit over an hour, focusing on PS5 and PS VR2 games in development from top studios from around the world”. Sony says players can expect “a glimpse at several new creations from PlayStation Studios, as well as spellbinding games from third-party partners and indie creators”.

As you would expect, the stream will be available across both Twitch and YouTube. While Sony welcomes independent creators re-streaming the show to their audience with their own commentary, they do warn that the show may include copyrighted content, like music, that is out of PlayStation's control, which the company warns could interfere with co-streams or VOD archives.

This will be Sony's biggest showcase of the year, as is often the case for all publishers during the summer months. As for what we can expect to see – Final Fantasy 16 and Spider-Man 2 are absolutely going to appear here, as both are PS5 exclusive and due out within the next few months. Final Fantasy 16 is releasing in the second half of June, while Spider-Man 2 is rumoured to be arriving in September.

Anything outside of that is a complete mystery. Perhaps Naughty Dog will bring an update for The Last of Us Factions, a long-in-development multiplayer spin-off. Given how long it has been since Ghost of Tsushima came out, we may also get an update on what Sucker Punch is working on.
