Capcom announces record number of game sales for the publisher

Capcom has had an interesting trajectory in the video games industry over the years. Once a juggernaut of the industry, Capcom’s caché saw quite a drop during the Xbox 360 / PS3 era. Fortunately, Capcom is back and bigger than ever, with the publisher having sold more games than ever before during the past year.

Capcom recently published their end of year fiscal reports, revealing that between April 1st 2022 and March 31st 2023, the publisher managed to sell 41.7 million games. This marks a not-so-insignificant increase over the previous year – which saw 32.6 million units shifted.

This not only helped push Capcom to achieving a sixth consecutive year of record-high profit “at all levels” alongside a tenth consecutive year of operating income growth, but it also represented a record year for the publisher.

Breaking down some of Capcom biggest games from the past 12 months, the company’s best-selling product for the year was Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak – shifting nearly 5.5 million units during the period.

Second place goes to the recently-released Resident Evil 4 Remake, having sold over 3.75 million units in the week between its launch on the 24th of March and the 31st. Rounding out the list with 3rd place is the base Monster Hunter Rise, having sold 3.7 million copies during the fiscal year (putting the game at a total of 12.7 million units).

With the likes of Street Fighter 6 coming out later this year – and RE4 undoubtedly set to sell millions of more copies – it will be interesting to see what next year’s fiscal reports look like – and whether it will once again be another record-breaking year.
