Sony has reportedly cancelled sci-fi shooter at Final Strike Games

In recent years Sony has partnered with a number of small yet promising indie studios – many of which consist of industry veterans. Just some of the partnerships have included FireSprite Games; Haven Studios; Deviation Games and more. One such partnership was seemingly with Final Strike Games, working on an unannounced Sci-fi shooter. Unfortunately, the game has reportedly since been cancelled, with 40% of the studio’s developers laid off.

As discovered and reported on by Timur222, “Sony has canceled an unannounced sci-fi shooter at Final Strike Games. The game was in development for 3 years. (Was 2 years away from shipping). Platforms were PS5 and PC.”

According to Timur (and thanks to a number of developers who have since spoken out), the cancellation of this game came alongside a 40% reduction in the studio size, meaning a significant portion of developers have been laid off.

For the uninitiated, Final Strike Games was founded in 2016, with their first release being the 3v3 3rd person shooter Rocket Arena, published by EA and released in 2020. Following 4 Seasons of updates, the team moved on to assisting with live service support for the ever popular Fortnite in June of 2021 – with the now-cancelled IP beginning development in August of the same year.

Little is known about the cancelled Sci-fi shooter nor the level of involvement by Sony, but regardless, it is disappointing to see what could have been a promising new IP ultimately get cancelled. That said, there was likely a good reason for its cancellation, and so in the long-term hopefully this was the correct decision to make.
