Elden Ring awarded Game of the Year at GDC Awards 2023

There have already been quite a few award show events to celebrate the game releases of 2022. Still, the Game Developer Conference Awards event differs slightly from the rest. Unlike other award shows which have a jury and rely on public voting, the GDC Awards nominations and winners are selected by developers and members of the game industry, allowing them to recognise the work of their peers.

In the GDC Awards 2023, the Game of the Year award winner was From Software's Elden Ring, which also got Best Visual Art and Best Design. The second most awarded game was Sony Santa Monica's God of War Ragnarök, awarded the Best Audio, Best Technology and Audience awards. Other games awarded in the show include Pentiment, Citizen Sleeper, Stray and Immortality.

The list of the award winners at GDC 2023 is the following:

  • Best Debut: Stray (BlueTwelve Studio, Annapurna Interactive)
  • Best Visual Art: Elden Ring (FromSoftware, Bandai Namco Entertainment)
  • Best Audio: God of War Ragnarök (Santa Monica Studio, Sony Interactive Entertainment)
