GSC Game World warns of security breach and potential Stalker 2 leaks

GSC Game World has had a rough time over the past year. The company has already had to move countries due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and after dealing with all of that, the studio has faced numerous cyberattacks. In the latest breach, a group of Russian fans of the series stole a ton of data and they are now threatening to leak it all if certain demands aren't met.

The group responsible for the breach posted about it on the Russian social network VK, demanding that GSC Game World ‘changes its attitude' towards players from Belarus and Russia. The group also wants GSC Game World to prioritise RU localisation for the game so that fans in the country can play the game at release.

GSC Game World has already responded to these demands, doubling down on support for its home country of Ukraine and refusing to give in to demands. The company also asks that fans be cautious and avoid sharing any leaks.

“In the event of any leaks, we ask that you refrain from watching or distributing information about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl”. The studio goes on to say that “outdated and WIP materials may dilute the impression of the final idea that we have put into the game”.

Stalker 2 is due to release sometime in 2023, but due to the circumstances impacting the game's development, it could end up being pushed back a bit further. When the game does release, it will arrive day-one on Xbox Game Pass for PC and console. We'll get a new look at the game at GDC later this month, as GSC Game World is holding a panel with Nvidia to discuss some of the tech inside the game.

KitGuru Says: According to GSC Game World, this isn't the first cyber attack it has faced over the past year but unfortunately it does seem that at least one bad actor was able to get through and steal a sizable amount of data.
