Publisher ‘No More Robots’ will bring all future titles to Xbox Game Pass

The current generation of gaming has seen Microsoft shift its strategy to focusing on Xbox Game Pass – the console manufacturer’s game subscription service. The service itself has had its diehard supporters, while others have criticised its effects on the industry. In the wake of this small controversy, one publisher has promised to bring all their future titles onto Game Pass.

Microsoft recently came under a bit of fire after the console manufacturer revealed – as part of the ongoing Activision Blizzard acquisition – that Xbox Game Pass negatively affects the sales of games added to the service. The company quickly followed up with a statement saying “Each game is unique, so we work closely with creators to build a custom program to reflect what they need, ensure they are compensated financially for their participation in the service, and allow room for creativity and innovation. As a result, the number of developers interested in working with Game Pass continues to grow.”

Microsoft seems to be speaking the truth as shortly following the release of this statement, Mike Rose – the studio director for publishing label ‘No More Robots’ – took to Twitter to say: “Everytime Game Pass is in the news, my ‘Descenders’ search *fills* with mentions as people on both sides try to explain why Descenders [a game published by No More Robots] is proof of their own claim about Game Pass and every single time, oh boy do I learn that gamers do not understand how video games work *at all*”

Rose then continued, revealing that “All I can say is, we're aiming to get every single title we publish from now on, onto Game Pass. In doing so, we'll secure success for each title, and relieve immense pressure for the devs. But please gamers, continue to explain why it's bad for us.”

It is interesting to see the different perspectives and opinions surrounding Xbox Game Pass – especially when observing the differences between indie titles and major AAA releases. It is undeniably good to see that Game Pass is helping keep indie teams operating with minimal stresses surrounding money. Hopefully this sentiment is shared by many other Game Pass associates.
