Nvidia DLSS 3.1.0 SDK includes an optional auto-update feature

Nvidia just released the first update to the DLSS SDK since version 2.4, which was released in March 2022. Considering the new features it packs, it's considered to be a major release. Hence, the new version is numbered 3.1.0.

The new DLSS SDK 3.1.0 available over at GitHub brings some interesting features for gamers. Besides the various performance, bug, and optimisation fixes, stability improvements and an updated DLSS programming guide for new API additions, the new SDK will allow developers to customise the DLSS scaling ratios depending on the game content.

However, the highlight should be the ability to stay up-to-date with the latest DLSS improvements, meaning developers can configure the game's DLSS implementation to update automatically without their intervention. This is done by enabling the function called “NVSDK_NGX_UpdateFeature”, allowing the game to receive the latest Over-the-Air (OTA) update for its DLSS library. It's worth noting that despite its version number (3.1.0), the new SDK is also aimed at DLSS 2-compatible games.

Besides the source code, the latest SDK release also includes two demos for Linux and Windows apps and a precompiled DLSS library that can be used on new games.

KitGuru says: Any developer enabling the auto-update feature will allow its game to receive incremental updates of DLSS and ensure it always runs the latest version of Nvidia's upscaling tech. For games supported by DLSS Swapper, that may not bring any particular benefit. However, for where the app doesn't work (for example, anything that uses Origin/EA Play to run), this will be a welcome addition.
