Kotick will ‘absolutely remain’ CEO if Microsoft-Activision merger fails

Activision Blizzard found itself in a pit of controversy two years ago, with anger against leadership and CEO, Bobby Kotick, leading to lawsuits and employee walkouts. Many who support Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard are hoping to see new leadership at the publisher, but if the acquisition fails, it looks like Kotick will indeed be sticking around.

Prior to the acquisition announcement, many were calling for Kotick to step down as CEO of Activision and for a short while, it looked like things might move in that direction, but with the Microsoft acquisition announcement, the news cycle moved on. According to ‘sources close to the situation' speaking with Fox Business, Kotick does intend on remaining on as CEO if the acquisition fails to go through.

The source said Kotick “will absolutely remain at the gaming giant to run the company”, should the merger fail to materialise. This news is likely not going to be well received by employees, who have been organising continued unionisation efforts in an attempt to take back some of the power from Activision's board.

Recently, Kotick has spoken out on the acquisition, claiming that Sony is attempting to sabotage the deal with Microsoft and stating that leaders at Sony have stopped taking calls from Activision execs.

KitGuru Says: Activision Blizzard was in a dire situation prior to Microsoft's buyout offer. If the merger fails, we have to wonder if frustrations with the company's leadership will rise to the surface again.
