MSI expands DDR5 memory capacity up to 192GB on LGA1700-based motherboards

Most MSI 600 and 700 series motherboards are listed as supporting up to 64GB (two channels) or 128GB (four channels) of DDR5 memory. However, that's only because up to now, there were 16GB and 32GB modules. Thanks to Crucial's recent announcement of 24GB and 48GB modules, these boards can now support 96GB and 192GB memory configurations.

Increasing the maximum DDR5 memory capacity of the 600 and 700 MAG, MEG MPG, and Pro series motherboards doesn't require a BIOS update. Just plug any 24GB or 48GB module into your motherboard, and you'll be good to go. Based on MSI's announcement, AMD-based motherboards don't benefit from the increased memory capacity.

Using the new memory modules, an MSI motherboard with four channels, like the MEG Z790 Godlike, can now support up to 192GB DDR5 memory. If you have an MSI motherboard like the MPG Z790I Edge, which only has two channels, you can still increase its memory capacity up to 96GB.

The other motherboard manufacturers have yet to announce if their products will support the new memory modules, but they should say something soon.
