Redfall will require an always-online connection even in single player

Redfall is one of the biggest first-party Xbox games currently set to release in 2023. Launching on the 2nd of May, Microsoft recently gave fans a deep look at the upcoming open-world co-op shooter. Unfortunately it seems as though even if you were to play the game solo, Redfall will require a constantly active internet connection.

As reported by the Twitter page ‘Does it Play?' which “test commercial releases to ensure they work entirely internet free,” the upcoming open-world vampire killing co-op title Redfall from Arkane Austin will require an always online connection to play no matter what, with the source of information coming from Bethesda themselves.

As part of a Redfall FAQ published to Bethesda’s website, the publisher responded to the question “Will playing Redfall require an online connection for single player as well as co-op?” by claiming that “A persistent online connection is required for single player and co-op.”

While yes, Redfall does emphasise cooperative play, the game is said to be entirely playable in singleplayer and so it is somewhat disappointing to see that even when going solo an always-online connection is required. Hopefully this decision is reversed prior to the game’s launch.
