Skyblivion is a fan-made Oblivion remake in the Skyrim engine

It feels like an eternity since the development team behind Skyblivion first announced the mod. The project, which aims to remake Oblivion in the Skyrim engine, has been in development for over ten years, but it seems we finally have a launch date. According to the devs, the mod will be out in 2025 “at the latest”.

To commemorate the announcement of the release date, the team also published an official trailer for the mod, giving us a glimpse of what we can expect from it. Skyblivion will be free and supports the standard Skyrim release, as well as the Legacy and Special Editions. Users will need both Skyrim and Oblivion, including the DLCs, to play the mod.

It will also be completely modular, meaning you can choose what you want to install and what you don't. That includes many of the systems and enhancements the team developed, including Landscaping Overhaul, Interior Overhaul, City Overhaul, and Weapon/Armor Overhaul.

Creating a game from the ground up is a long process. This is especially true for volunteers trying to rebuild a AAA game that took years for a team of full-time employees to complete. Considering the size of this project, it's not too surprising to see how long it has been in development for. Although it was announced that the mod will come out in 2025, the team left open the possibility of “exceeding [their] own expectations”.
