Deep Rock Galactic has sold over 5.5 million units

Deep Rock Galactic is a fun co-op first-person shooter which sees players working together to mine underground resources in full-destructible environments – all the while trying to hold back the horde of enemies coming your way. Since its early access release in 2018, the game has gone from strength to strength, now having sold over 5 million copies.

Making the announcement on Steam, the studio behind Deep Rock Galactic – Ghost Ship Games – said “Happy New Year, Miners! We hope you’ve had a great 2022, and are ready for all the exciting mining opportunities this new year will bring. We took a bit of time off during the past few weeks, but now we are back again and hard at work on DRG.”

With that, the team released an infographic showing all sorts of different impressive statistics, with the most important being the fact that since its early access release on PC and Xbox in February 2018, Deep Rock Galactic has sold over 5.5 million copies.

Interestingly, the team released an annual breakdown for its sales showing a year-on-year increase for every single year:

  • 2018 – 502,312 copies
  • 2019 – 404,213 copies
  • 2020 – 1,180,595 copies
  • 2021 – 1,385,985 copies
  • 2022 – 2,340,934 copies

Seeing Deep Rock Galactic grow in such a way is impressive indeed, however it is worth noting that the game finally released on PlayStation in January of 2022, which undoubtedly aided with last year’s big bump in sales. That said, the game was given away for free as part of PlayStation Plus and is available on Xbox Game Pass, meaning the total list of players is much higher than the number of copies sold.
