Nintendo Switch is set to surpass both PS4 and Game Boy in total sales

Since its launch in Spring of 2017, the Nintendo Switch has consistently sold like hotcakes, with the handheld-console hybrid finding itself near the top of the list of best-selling video game consoles of all time. With the latest figures released, it is now evident that the Nintendo Switch is set to soon surpass both the PS4 and Game Boy to become the 3rd best-selling system of all time.

As reported by Gematsu, Nintendo recently updated its hardware and software sales figures, revealing that during the 3 months ending on the 30th of September, Nintendo sold 3.25 million Switches, bringing the total number of systems sold to 114.33 million.

This latest figure puts the Switch just behind the PlayStation 4 and its 117.2 million consoles sold, with Nintendo’s own Game Boy / Game Boy Colour being next in line with more than 118.69 million units sold.

With its current trajectory, the Switch is likely to become the 3rd best-selling video game system of all time by its 6th birthday – far outpacing most other systems to the top.

Being almost 6 years old now, the Switch is certainly starting to feel its age, and so it will be interesting to see just how many more units it will sell – and whether the console will approach the DS and PS2’s 150+ million units sold. Time will tell.
