Intel Meteor Lake desktop CPUs to come with up to 22 Cores, Arrow Lake-S with up to 24 Cores

Intel is already working on the next two generations of desktop chips. Named Meteor Lake-S and Arrow Lake-S, the two new architectures promise to bring architectural changes to Intel's CPU design philosophy. These changes are being made to accommodate the new features they'll introduce, but it seems Intel had to sacrifice some things.

According to Wccftech, which claims to have access to an internal Intel presentation, Meteor Lake-S desktop chips will come with up to six P-cores (Redwood Cove) and 16 E-cores (Crestmont) for a total of 22 cores. Compared to the current Raptor Lake-S offering, that's less, but the new core designs might be enough to compensate for the lower core count. These processors should also include an iGPU with 4 Xe cores (64EUs).

As per the source, there will be five chip configurations. You can see all of them in the table below:

Chip P-Cores E-Cores iGPU Cores TDP
Meteor Lake-S 22 6 16 4 125W
Meteor Lake-S 22 6 16 4 65W
Meteor Lake-S 22 6 16 4 35W
Meteor Lake-S 14 6 8 4 65W
Meteor Lake-S 14 6 8 4 35W

Continuing into the Arrow Lake-S, the future architecture will bring back the 8 P-core and 16 E-core configurations, totalling a maximum of 24 cores. The iGPUs will remain with 4 Xe cores, but these could use a different GPU architecture. It's also worth noting that the number of chip configurations reduces to three, as seen in this table:

Chip P-Cores E-Cores iGPU Cores TDP
Arrow Lake-S 22 8 16 4 125W
Arrow Lake-S 22 8 16 4 65W
Arrow Lake-S 22 8 16 4 35W

KitGuru says: With Meteor Lake-S, Intel could face a similar issue to that of Rocket Lake-S, where the top SKU had fewer cores than the previous flagship CPU.
