Some AMD Ryzen 5 7600X CPUs come with two chiplets

AMD Ryzen 7000 series processors come with up to two chiplets, each with eight Zen 4 cores. Depending on the SKU, the Zen 4 cores are enabled to match the specifications. For Ryzen 5 7600X CPUs, a single CCD would suffice. However, it seems that's not the case for every sample out there, as found by Der8auer after delidding some samples.

As seen in Der8auer's video, AMD is still “recycling” higher-end chips to produce lower-tiered products. Similarly to the 8-core Ryzen 7 5800X and 6-core Ryzen 5 5600X, AMD is salvaging higher-grade processors to make Ryzen 5 7600X samples.

In the past, AMD publicly stated that it uses a strategy that maximises production and minimises waste. One such example of this approach is using a two-chiplet processor with one disabled CCD to make a Ryzen 5 5600X or a Ryzen 7 5800X. With the Ryzen 7000 series, it seems AMD will continue to employ this strategy.

For those concerned that a two-CCD chip will perform worse than one with a single CCD, AMD has ensured that the disabled CCD will be fused off at the factory. However, that takes away any hope of re-enabling the second CCD to enable the chip's full potential.

KitGuru says: This is a strategy that has been used for many years. It helps companies avoid manufacturing losses, and it reduces waste by salvaging chips and putting them to use.
