Overwatch 2 has surpassed 25 million players in 10 days

Overwatch 2 has had a rough launch to say the least. Multiple issues have come into play over the last 10 days, but still, that hasn’t stopped the sequel from being a massive success.

This week, Blizzard announced that over 25 million players logged into Overwatch since launch. In addition the game has achieved a peak concurrent player count than Overwatch 1. Normally, this wouldn’t be surprising, but given the negativity and confusion that surrounded Overwatch 2 from its announcement up to release, the numbers are impressive.

If anything, it goes to show Blizzard’s power in the industry. The company has made many missteps in the last five years but fans still show up in huge waves for each launch. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how many players stick around for future Overwatch 2 seasons and content updates.

Right now, Overwatch 2 is essentially a free to play version of the original game with a new seasonal content model in place and some tweaks to hero balance to suit 5v5 gameplay over 6v6. Next year, the game should be getting its long-awaited PvE story mode, which will help differentiate the sequel from Blizzard’s original 2016 offering.

KitGuru Says: I have played a ton of Overwatch 2 over the last ten days, but primarily in arcade mode, where you get access to all heroes and players aren’t role locked. To me, this has been much more fun than the traditional competitive mode. Have many of you been playing Overwatch 2 since launch? What do you think of the game so far?
