More cross-gen PlayStation games could be on the way

Hermen Hulst, the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, recently took part in a number of interviews where alongside confirming that live-service games will release day-and-date across PS5 and PC, it was stated that more cross-gen games could be on the way beyond God of War Ragnarök.

Hermen Hulst took part in an interview conducted by Japanese magazine Famitsu, where the executive discussed all manner of topics. As collated by Nibel on Twitter, Hermen Hulst revealed that both internal PlayStation Studios, and 2nd-party partners are working on live-service games for the PlayStation 5. Furthermore, not all of these will be original IPs, meaning that there are a number of licensed titles on the way. Of course, PlayStation has seen great success with the likes of Spider-Man, and so it is not surprising to see.

Other interesting tidbits include the fact that despite the push toward live-service titles, Sony’s high-end single player releases continue to be the most profitable for the company. Hulst also revealed that outside of Kojima Productions and Guerrilla Games, “a few studios” are using the Decima Engine (used to power Horizon Forbidden West and Death Stranding).

As mentioned, Hulst also claimed that Sony might still produce some cross-gen titles despite the PS5 set to soon enter its 3rd year on the market. God of War Ragnarök is coming to both PS4 and PS5, but beyond that, Sony’s plans become hazier. Still, with it being a case-by-case basis, hopefully any games which do come to PS4 don’t take away from the overall experience on PS5. We will have to wait and see.
