The Legend of Heroes series surpasses 7 million copies sold

The Legend of Heroes series is one of the more underrated franchises, with the JRPG franchise seeing its roots date all the way back to the 1980s. Despite its longevity, the series has seen relatively modest success in the past. Fortunately, the past few years have been kind to the franchise, with The Legend of Heroes games now officially surpassing 7 million copies sold.

As reported by Gematsu, The Legend of Heroes franchise has sold over 7 million copies since the release of the first game back in 2004. While not as impressive as some franchises, its recent success is notable as prior to this announcement, The Legend of Heroes franchise had only sold 5 million copies in 16 years, meaning that the series managed to sell a further 2 million copies in just two years – suggesting that the game’s trajectory of success is increasing.

The Legend of Heroes series has historically had a staggered release, with games launching first in Japan and Asia before later coming to the West. This strategy will remain the case for the foreseeable future, with the upcoming The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki II -CRIMSON SiN- coming first to Japan, and so while the series may be somewhat gimping its own success, it seems as though in spite of this, the franchise is bigger than ever.
