Gigabyte Z690, B660, and upcoming motherboards will support AMD EXPO

Intel XMP has been the only memory OC profile standard for many years. However, that will soon change with AMD EXPO. The new memory standard was designed to work alongside the upcoming Ryzen 7000 series chips. Still, according to Gigabyte's announcement, Intel platforms also support AMD EXPO, but you'll need a new BIOS.

Recently, Gigabyte announced that their Z690 and B660 motherboards would soon receive a new BIOS that will allow them to support AMD EXPO memory sticks. In fact, all future motherboards manufactured by the company will support both Intel XMP and AMD EXPO memory, increasing the number of memory options you can use on your system.

For existing motherboards, you'll find the new BIOS on the product support page once the manufacturer makes them available. New motherboards, including new Z690 and B660, may have the respective BIOS (or later) installed out-of-the-box. Users will have to access the BIOS to enable AMD EXPO.

As of now, Gigabyte is the first motherboard manufacturer to announce something like this. However, we should see others making similar announcements soon.

KitGuru says: If Intel motherboards support AMD EXPO, the other way around should also be possible. Do you think motherboard manufacturers will allow you to install Intel XMP-compatible memory sticks on AMD 600-series motherboards and beyond?
