Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion gets December launch date

Earlier this year as part of Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 Anniversary celebration, we learned that not only is Final Fantasy 7 Remake now a trilogy of games, but we're also getting a remake of the 2007 prequel, Crisis Core. Now after a few extra months working on the Crisis Core remake, Square Enix has a release date set.

Last night, Square Enix debuted the new release date trailer for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion. This is a remake of Crisis Core for the PSP, which launched all the way back in 2007. The game had its following, but unfortunately, it never made its way to other platforms. That changes on the 13th of December, when the remake will land on PC, Xbox and PlayStation consoles, and the Nintendo Switch.

As you can see from the trailer, the remake makes a number of enhancements to graphics to bring it more in-line with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. All 3D models in the game have been updated, delivering a much better presentation compared to the PSP original. The remake also includes new music, re-recorded voice lines and more, all in hopes of delivering something “way beyond a simple HD remaster”.

For those who don't know, Crisis Core is set just before the events of Final Fantasy 7, putting players in the shoes of Zack Fair, although you'll see some familiar faces from Final Fantasy 7 along the way. The game ends just before the events of Final Fantasy 7, but with this being tied into the remake, which is making a few changes to the story compared to the original game, it is possible that we see some new story twists in the new version of Crisis Core.

KitGuru Says: Crisis Core Remake hitting all platforms is great, but I can't help but feel a lot of people won't bite unless Final Fantasy 7 Remake is also on the way. Giving Xbox and Switch owners the prequel and nothing else just seems like an odd move.
