XIII has been remade again to make up for horrible 2020 attempt

Two years ago, XIII Remake launched and swiftly disappointed fans due to technical issues and unwelcomed art-style changes. Back in June, publisher Microids announced that the game had been handed over to a new studio for a thorough reworking and now, we get our first look at the remake of XIII Remake.

The new trailer was quietly uploaded to the Microids YouTube channel earlier this month for the Nintendo Switch version, which you can see below. Previously, there has been a PS5 gameplay trailer, which is older but gives a good look at the game in full fidelity and at 60FPS.

Rather than opting for a Fortnite-style visual direction, XIII Remake has now gone back to its roots, using art clearly inspired by comic books, just like the original game. This new version should also oust a number of technical issues that plagued the original game.

XIII Remake first launched in 2020 and was so poorly received that Microids and the original developers, Play Magic, apologised for the state of the game. Later, Microids handed the project over to Tower Five, another development studio based in France. Since then, Tower Five has been reworking the game.

Anyone who owned the original remake will get the update for free. As of yesterday, the upgraded remake has been made available for Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S and PS5, as well as PC.

On Steam, the game still has an ‘overwhelmingly negative' reception, but recent reviews have been ‘very positive', indicating that previous and new owners are happy with the update.

KitGuru Says: The original version of this remake was a disaster, but it appears that Tower Five has managed to salvage the game. Did any of you pick up the XIII Remake back in 2020? What do you think of the new 2022 upgrade?
