Bandai Namco reveals first look at Tekken 8

After an initial teaser at EVO earlier this summer, Tekken 8 has now been officially announced with a brand new teaser trailer. The series made its debut on the original PlayStation console almost 28 years ago, so it is only fitting that Tekken 8 was revealed during State of Play last night.

The new fighting game was the first title to be announced during PlayStation's State of Play stream last night. According to Katsuhiro Harada, executive producer and director at Bandai Namco, the in-game engine trailer shows a small portion of the story mode running on a PS5 at 60FPS.

In this same trailer, we see the two protagonists of the Tekken series, Kazuya and Jin, fighting each other on a volcano in a mix of scripted scenes and “gameplay”. Overall, graphical fidelity is significantly improved over Tekken 7, with improved textures, enhanced effects, better lighting, and details. Gameplay-wise, it continues to look like a Tekken game.

Despite being a highly competitive fighting game, Tekken's story is still very important for the development team. In fact, it holds the record of being the longest-running story in a video game. Tekken 8 will continue where Tekken 7 stopped, focusing on the rivalry between father and son (Kazuya and Jin). Unfortunately, the release date wasn't disclosed.
