Sony is planning its own PC games launcher for PlayStation titles

In the days following the launch of Spider-Man Remastered on PC, dataminers have been combing through the game files to uncover secrets. We've already learned that a multiplayer component was once planned for the game through these methods, and now, there is also evidence that Sony is planning to dial up its PC gaming efforts even further. 

Dataminers discovered references within the Spider-Man files that point to a PlayStation games launcher for PC. This would allow Sony to convert its PC player base into PlayStation account users, and could potentially enable new features like cross-buy and PSN integration.

Through its own sources, VGC was able to verify that the references found are legitimate, but Sony does not have anything official to announce yet. Chances are, Sony will still sell its games through Steam, but like Xbox titles, upon launching you will be encouraged to link your PlayStation account.

For the trouble of setting up another gaming account, Sony could offer rewards like unique cosmetics and items for certain titles. Recently, Sony also set up a dedicated PC Games section for its PlayStation website.

Sony's PlayStation launcher wasn't ready in time for Spider-Man Remastered, but perhaps it will debut with Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, or The Last of Us Part 1, or even Spider-Man: Miles Morales, all of which are due to release on PC in the near future.
