Blizzard claims it isn’t actually going to charge $45 for skins in Overwatch 2

We're just a couple of months away from Overwatch 2 becoming available in Early Access. The new game will have free to play multiplayer and introduce new monetisation methods, with plans to sell skins directly through a store, rather than through lootboxes. A recent survey suggested that some skins could end up being very expensive, causing concern and forcing Blizzard to respond.

As pointed out by Porterguage on Twitter, recently Activision Blizzard has been surveying for feedback ahead of Overwatch 2's launch. The survey suggests that a legendary skin would sell for $24.99 and a ‘Mythic' skin would cost $44.99, weapon charms would be $9.99 each and a pack of three sprays would be $4.99.

These prices quickly sparked up concern across the community. The prices are high, but given Activision Blizzard's track record with microtransactions, we wouldn't be surprised to see vastly overpriced skins and cosmetics in a new game. However, Blizzard did respond to IGN, claiming that prices shown in the survey are “not indicative of final pricing”.

Specific pricing for Overwatch 2's cosmetics store has not been revealed. Blizzard has plans to reveal more about the store and battle pass system in the lead-up to launch on the 4th of October.

KitGuru Says: We all balked at the drop rates for legendary gear in Diablo Immortal, but that game is still making hundreds of millions. With that in mind, we wouldn't be surprised to see Activision Blizzard try to push the line further with higher pricing in Overwatch 2. How much should a ‘legendary' or a ‘mythic' skin really be worth as a standalone purchase?
