AMD Ryzen 7000 mobile processors to pack up to 16 cores and +5GHz clock speeds

The Ryzen 7000 mobile series is still months from release, but leaks are starting to come through, giving us an early look at what to expect in terms of hardware specs.

YouTuber, RedGamingTech, recently received new details on Dragon Range and Phoenix Point processors. The former will be AMD's high-end laptop processor range with higher power draw and lock speeds, while the latter will be more energy efficient and aimed at mainstream laptops.

The Dragon Range chips should come with up to 16 cores and 32 threads capable of boosting over 5.0GHz. Base frequencies should be between 3.6GHz and +4.0GHz, depending on the TDP. There are four SKUs we know about so far – the 16-core Ryzen 9 7980HX, the 12-core Ryzen 9 7900HX, the 8-core Ryzen 7 7800HX and the 6-core Ryzen 5 7600HX.

Phoenix Point processors should be capped at up to eight cores and 16 threads  and feature an RDNA3-based iGPU with up to 12 CUs clocked at 2.6GHz to 3.0GHz. Previous reports have claimed that the iGPU's target performance is around 9.2TFLOPS, about the same as the low-TDP RTX 3060 mobile. DDR5 and LPDDR5 memory support are likely, but there's also a chance for LPDDR5X. Lastly, the I/O should be similar to Rembrandt (Ryzen 6000 series) but with PCIe 5.0 support.

Phoenix Point's initial line-up will include three SKUs – the Ryzen 9 7980HS, 7900HS and the Ryzen 7 7800HS should ship with 8 CPU cores and a 12 CPU RDNA3 iGPU, while the Ryzen 5 7600HS will pack six CPU cores and an iGPU with 6 CUs.
