Intel XTU updated with support for upcoming Raptor Lake chips

Intel just launched a new version of its Extreme Tuning Utility overclocking software, and as usual, it also released the update's patch notes. Contrary to most other XTU releases, this one came with a few surprises, as Intel might have revealed some of the OC features coming with Raptor Lake.

The Intel XTU version 7.8.0.21 release notes may have revealed the so-called ‘enhanced overclocking features' of Raptor Lake. Rumours already suggested that the new chips would be capable of reaching higher clock speeds than Alder Lake processors, and the new features might give us an idea of how that will be possible.

According to the patch notes, the latest Intel XTU version introduces per-core and package OC TVB (Thermal Velocity Boost) support for “future platforms”. With these future platforms, Intel is probably referring to Raptor Lake, which is expected to release later this year. Moreover, the patch notes mention a new technology called ‘Efficient TVB', but we don't know much about this feature or how it works at this time.

Here are the full release notes of Intel XTU v7.8.0.21:

  • Future Platform(s) Support:
    • Added per-core OC TVB support
    • Added package OC TVB support
    • Added Efficient TVB support
  • Undervolt protection, Core Isolation Memory Integrity, Virtual Machine State, and Hyper-V state detection and notification updates
  • Dynamic Intel Speed Optimizer feature optimization
  • Support for Windows 11 22H2 SV2
  • Removed support for Kabylake platforms

The Intel Raptor Lake platform is expected to release in Q3/4 alongside the new 700-series motherboards.
