Microsoft confirms shortage of Xbox controllers due to supply issues

Since launch, Sony and Microsoft have struggled to manufacture enough next-gen consoles to satisfy demand. Microsoft might be heading towards a bigger problem this summer, as the company has confirmed shortages of Xbox controllers.

According to VGC, UK retailers such as GAME, Smyths, Argos, Currys and even the official Microsoft Store don't have Xbox controllers available for sale. At the moment, Amazon UK seems to be one of the few places where you buy an Xbox controller at MSRP (£55), but only in Carbon Black. A quick look at other colours shows third-party sellers asking for £94 or more for an Xbox controller.

Besides the UK, other countries such as Australia, France, the Netherlands and Germany are facing a similar shortage. On the other hand, the US doesn't seem affected as much, as various retailers are selling them. However, some are already exclusively selling second-hand controllers.

When asked about the situation, a Microsoft representative said: “We know it may be hard finding Xbox Wireless Controllers right now due to supply disruptions. We're working as fast as possible with our manufacturing and retail partners to improve this. Please check with your local retailer for availability.”

KitGuru says: If the price of Xbox controllers keeps increasing, you may be better off getting an Xbox Series S console, selling it and keeping the controller for yourself. It may end up being cheaper in the end.
