Ubisoft will reveal ‘the future of Assassin’s Creed’ in September event

Yesterday during Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed anniversary stream, the company stayed away from making any major game announcements. However, they did tease a new event happening in September, during which we'll see “the future of Assassin's Creed” unveiled.

During the anniversary stream last night, community lead and host, Alice Terrett, said: “Join us this September as we unveil the future of Assassin’s Creed during a very special event”. It sounds like Assassin's Creed will be getting its own dedicated showcase this year, rather than being part of a larger Ubisoft Forward event.

While there won't be a major new Assassin's Creed game this year, we do know through leaks that a new spin-off game will be coming in 2022, focussing on a side character from Valhalla. In 2023, we should also see another small-scale, stealth-focused Assassin's Creed game.

The biggest thing we'll likely see at this event though is a teaser for Assassin's Creed Infinity. The new live-service style Assassin's Creed game is supposed to serve as a platform for all future story campaigns and other types of content. The game leaked well ahead of Ubisoft's planned announcement, leading to the publisher confirming the project while it was still in early development. It has been over a year since then and recent rumours indicate that Ubisoft was originally pushing for Infinity in 2023, but it has likely slipped to 2024.

KitGuru Says: Ubisoft hasn't exactly blown me away with its previous live-service games. The Division 1 and 2 both felt like they were dropped after just one year, so I have little hope for Assassin's Creed Infinity. Still, it will be interesting to finally see Ubisoft's newly envisioned future of the franchise in action. Of course, it is also possible that Infinity isn't ready to be shown yet, in which case, this upcoming stream could be underwhelming.
