Electronics company claims new Xbox Series and PS5 Pro consoles coming by 2024

Due to on-going stock shortages and pandemic-related game delays, it still feels like the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S console generation has barely begun. Early adopters haven't had many next-gen only releases yet, but it looks like Sony and Microsoft may be planning to introduce more powerful hardware already.

Last generation, Sony and Microsoft shook things up by providing mid-gen refreshed consoles, in the form of the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. Neither company has commented on plans for a mid-gen refresh for the Xbox Series X/S and PS5, but a Chinese electronics company may have revealed those plans.

TCL, an electronics company based in Hong Kong, recently held a conference (via ppe) , during which, the company showed a presentation slide claiming that  new ‘Pro' Xbox Series and PS5 consoles will be landing in 2023-2024 and will be another mid-gen refresh, just like the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

The new consoles would make the jump to an RDNA 3 GPU. According to the slides, the GPU should be on par with the RX 7700 XT, which does not exist yet as AMD has not announced its next-gen desktop graphics cards. The new consoles may also improve 8K TV support, allowing 8K 60 to 120Hz output. Whether or not any games would support such a resolution at those frame rates is up for debate.

KitGuru Says: This seems to be a case of a TV company estimating potential sources for future revenue, rather than a legitimate leak with real weight behind it. Given that gaming is now a massive part of what people consider when buying a new TV, there are probably more than a few TV makers eagerly awaiting new consoles so that they can begin marketing 8K TVs.
