Xbox Series X/S outsold the PS5 again this quarter

Microsoft held its quarterly earnings report earlier this week and it seems that the Xbox team has been doing extremely well. For the second quarter in a row, the Xbox Series X/S consoles have managed to outsell the PS5.

Speaking during the call, Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, reported that the Xbox Series X and S consoles “have taken share globally for two quarters in a row”. Gaming revenue for Microsoft was also up by 6 percent compared to Q2 last year, reaching $3.74 billion for the quarter. Over the course of Q2, Xbox became the market leader amongst next-gen consoles in the US, Canada, UK and Western Europe.

Of course, a chunk of this advantage comes down to an availability advantage. Due to on-going shortages, high demand and low supply, whichever console maker can ship the most stock is going to sell more units. If Microsoft has issues keeping supply up in Q3 or Q4, then Sony will very likely overtake in sales once again.

In fact, this is something that Microsoft is already expecting and warning investors about. Speaking on the supply situation, Microsoft CFO, Amy Hood, explained that the company expects revenue decline “in the mid to high single digits” due to constrained console supply in Q4.
