NieR: Automata is getting an anime

NieR: Automata just celebrated its 5th anniversary, and as part of this, Square Enix held a number of NieR-related announcements. Alongside the fact that the upcoming Babylon’s Fall will be getting NieR: Automata content, a whole NieR: Automata anime has now been announced.

Though there is very little information available right now – aside from a very brief teaser trailer – it has been confirmed that an anime based on NieR: Automata is in development. The adaptation is being produced by Square Enix and Aniplex – the latter of which is owned by Sony and known for producing hundreds of anime from Naruto to Banana Fish.

The NieR: Automata anime is actually being developed and animated however by A-1 Pictures – a long-time collaborator responsible for the likes of Blue Exorcist; Sword Art Online; Your Lie in April; Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, and (co-producing) Darling in the Franxx – to name but a few.

Other details which can be gleaned from the teaser is the fact that the ever-popular 2B seemingly remains the primary protagonist of the game. Furthermore, the music used in the video certainly sounds like the stylings of series composer Keiichi Okabe.

All this combined makes for an exciting announcement, and with anime adaptations of video games already proving to be successful and worth their investment, hopefully A-1 Pictures is given as much time and budget as needed.
