Nvidia’s flagship RTX 40 GPU may be incredibly power hungry

As we've come to expect, the next generation of Nvidia gaming graphics cards will be way more power-hungry than the RTX 30 series. The question that we keep asking ourselves is how much more? Well, according to a new rumour, it will be close to about 2x more in the case of the RTX 4090.

The original report comes from Greymon55, which kopite7kimi corroborated somewhat. While the former states that the RTX 4080/4080Ti/4090 GPUs will have a TGP of 450/650/850W, the latter is slightly more reserved, claiming they will consume 450W, 600W, and 800W, respectively.

In both cases, the leakers remind us that these are just rumours. These aren't the final specifications, but even if they were, Nvidia has more than enough time to change things, considering these cards should launch around September/October, at the earliest. One of the leakers also shed some doubt on the credibility of their source.

According to rumours, the Nvidia AD102 die will use a monolithic design based on the TSMC N5 node. Expected to feature up to 18,432 CUDA cores and GDDR6X memory, the AD102 GPU was allegedly designed to deliver two times the performance of the GA102 GPU.
