Valve publishes Steam Deck CAD files so anyone can create their own casings

We're just two weeks away from the Steam Deck launch, but Valve keeps surprising us with new things about its portable console. Recently, the game company made the CAD files of the Steam Deck publicly available, allowing anyone to create or 3D print the console's casing.

The CAD files will be available under a Creative Commons license, allowing “tinkerers, modders, accessory manufacturers, or folks who just want to 3D print a Steam Deck to see how it feels”. These files are for the external shell only and include an STP model, STL model, and drawings (DWG) for reference.

Checking the files on GitLab, there's a short description reminding us that every Steam Deck owner has the right to open up the console and do anything with it. However, inexperienced users should leave that to the professionals, as they may damage or even break it (and that's not covered by warranty).

If you're interested in downloading the Steam Deck CAD files, you can find them HERE. Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru says: Thanks to these files, it shouldn't take long before we see third-party manufacturers launching Steam Deck casings and accessories. Would you get a third-party Steam Deck casing, or would you rather build one yourself?
