Fallout-inspired RPG Pathfinder: Kingmaker is free on the Epic Games Store

For the final two weeks of 2021, Epic Games has been giving out a new title for free every 24 hours. Following yesterday’s free game (Vampyr), the classic Fallout and Baldur’s Gate inspired isometric RPG Pathfinder: Kingmaker is now free to purchase and download on the Epic Games Store.

Available from now until the 4PM UK time Christmas day, Pathfinder: Kingmaker – Enhanced Plus Edition is an isometric RPG which takes inspiration from classic RPGs such as the original Fallout games, Baldur’s Gate and Arcanum.

Brought to life through Kickstarter, the game takes the pen-and-paper role playing game and translates it into video game format. The version being given for free is the ‘Enhanced Plus Edition’ which adds a great deal of new content, as well as quality of life improvements:

  • Numerous gameplay-enriching content additions and dozens of quality-of-life features
  • New abilities and ways to build your character, including a brand-new class
  • New items and weaponry
  • Improved balance, especially in the beginning and last two chapters of the game
  • Enhanced kingdom management system, both in terms of balance as well as usability and player comfort
  • Increased variety of random encounters on the global map
  • Thousands of fixes and improvements made since the game's initial release

One of the most common issues shared regarding the game upon its initial release was the fact that the game suffered from a number of technical problems. This enhanced release therefore brings with it some much-needed improvements. While not a game-changing classic RPG, Pathfinder showed enough promise to warrant a sequel – which is currently in development. If you are looking to get into a new CRPG, Pathfinder: Kingmaker may be for you – and for the price of free, you ultimately can’t go wrong.

Pathfinder: Kingmaker – Enhanced Plus Edition is available to purchase and download for free via the Epic Games Store from now until 25th of December at 4pm – at which point it will be replaced by as-of-yet-unknown game.
