Strategy RPG Mutant Year Zero is free to claim on the Epic Games Store

As we near the end of 2021, Epic Games is once again offering more than a dozen free games on its digital storefront, with a new game being offered every 24 hours until the end of the year. Right now, those with an Epic Games account can get their hands on the turn-based strategy RPG Mutant Year Zero: road to Eden.

Available to purchase for free until 4PM UK time, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is a tactical turn-based strategy adventure RPG, in which “Mankind has been eradicated by climate change, nuclear war, and pandemics. Will your team of mutants survive the Zone?”

Taking inspiration from games such as XCOM, while adding its own twist with “real-time stealth and exploration of a post-human world reclaimed by nature,” Mutant Year Zero received consistently high praise from both critics and fans alike, with particular commendation being given to the game’s mechanics, characters and world.

Additionally, Mutant Year Zero’s Seed of Evil expansion is currently on sale for 40% off (£7.79) on the Epic Games Store, and serves as a pseudo-sequel, being set directly after the events of the main game, while adding “hours of more game play, new locations to visit, and a new leading character!” That being said, reception towards the expansion was much less positive, with the main issue being that despite the new content, gameplay remained mostly the same.

Still, for fans of the main game, the Seed of Evil expansion may be worth a look. Fortunately, the most well received part of the game – namely the original release – is entirely free to pick up and keep forever.

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is currently available to purchase for free on the Epic Games Store, and will remain so until later today at 4PM UK, at which point it will be replaced by a new “mystery game.”
