Flight Simulator GOTY Edition update is now live with DX12 support

Back in October, Microsoft announced that they would be releasing a new version of the much-loved Microsoft Flight Simulator. This new Game of the Year edition was announced to be arriving with many enhancements, including DirectX12 support; new content; game modes; planes and more. This free update is now available for all, just in time for the weekend.

Making the announcement on their blog, Jorg Neumann, the Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, said “We are excited to announce that the Microsoft Flight Simulator: Game of the Year Edition (GOTY) is available today! This new edition celebrates all the positive feedback, reviews and awards garnered, and is also a “Thank You” to our fans – new and old – that have made Microsoft Flight Simulator such a phenomenon.”

As mentioned, the update brings with it a great deal of new content, including “five new handcrafted aircraft, eight new airports, six new Discovery Flights and updated weather systems and incorporates all six World Updates.”

While exciting in its own right, by far the biggest feature is the new support for DirectX12, which alongside major performance improvements, should allow for the game to support ray-tracing down the line – assuming the developer chooses to add the feature.

The best of all this however is the fact that it is a free update, meaning this is now the de facto way to experience Microsoft Flight Simulator. If you did not try the game out at launch, now is the perfect time to do so. The full list of additions and changes can be found HERE.
