With the launch of Intel's 12th Gen Core processors swiftly approaching, those with early samples are starting to share information and benchmarks a bit more freely. The latest leak details overclocking the Core i9-12900K, and the amount of power the chip consumes when overclocked.
A poster on Bilibili (via @9550pro) has obtained a Core i9-12900K sample and has already begun overclocking the chip, pushing it to 5.2GHz across all ‘performance' cores, while the chip's efficient cores were kept at stock clock speeds, with the CPU voltage set at 1.385V. With this performance tuning in place, the Core i9-12900K scored 851 points on CPU-Z's single-threaded test and 11986.9. With these scores, the Core i9-12900K comes out ahead of the Ryzen 9 5950X in single-core and multi-core benchmarks. However, power consumption also saw a significant increase, jumping up to 330W, over the CPU's PL1 of 125W.

Other screenshots show the single-thread and multi-thread test scores of a different Core i9-12900K sample that boosts up to 5.0/5.1GHz (QX7H) in CPU-Z and Cinebench R23. In single-threaded tests, the i9-12900K outperformed the Core i9-11900K and the Ryzen 9 5950X with 827.7 points in CPU-Z and 2007 points in CR23. That's about 15% faster than the i9-11900K and 25% faster than the Ryzen 9 CPU.
In the multi-core tests, the Core i9-12900K scored 11,456.5 in CPU-Z and 27,461 in R23, the Core i9-12900K was over 60% faster, on average, than the i9-11900K, but the Ryzen 9 5950X beat the Intel flagship Alder Lake processor by 10%, on average.
