Sony acquires Bluepoint Games

Thanks to an accidental early reveal by PlayStation Japan, it was already known that Sony had intentions to acquire Bluepoint Games. Now that the ink has dried however, the console manufacturer has finally officially announced that Bluepoint Games has been acquired, making the studio the latest in a quick succession of acquisitions.

Making the announcement on the PlayStation Blog, Hermen Hulst, the Head of PlayStation Studios said “Today I’m very excited to announce that PlayStation Studios has grown again with the addition of long-time partner Bluepoint Games! From the exceptional PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls to the critically acclaimed PS4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus and remasters of fan favorites like Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Bluepoint has built a name for itself by creating some of the highest-quality remasters and remakes in the industry.”

The president of Bluepoint Games, Marco Thrush, commented on the acquisition, saying “PlayStation has such an iconic gaming catalog and for us there’s been nothing better than to bring some of gaming’s masterpieces to new players. Becoming a part of PlayStation Studios, empowers our team to raise the quality-bar even further and create even more impactful experiences for the PlayStation community.”

While Bluepoint Games has created titles for other consoles and platforms, its recent history has been deeply associated with PlayStation. From Shadow of The Colossus to Demon’s Souls and more, the studio has managed to successfully elevate some of the most classic PlayStation titles, remaking them in a faithful yet creative manner. It will be interesting to see what they develop next.
