Gran Turismo 7 gets concrete release date

Gran Turismo 7 is looking to be a graphical showpiece for the PS5. Initially intended to launch in 2021, the game was delayed to 2022. During the recent Sony PlayStation showcase it was finally announced that GT7 would be coming to the PS4 and PS5 in March 2022.

Making the announcement, the President of Polyphony Digital and Creator of Gran Turismo, Kazunori Yamauchi, said with an “inexplicable sense of excitement, I’m happy to report that Gran Turismo 7 will be available on March 4, 2022, simultaneously on both the PS5 and the PS4 consoles.”

Speaking on the inspiration behind the game, Yamauchi said “GT7 is both the culmination of the series which answers the expectations of GT fans throughout the years, and at the same time it is a title that marks a beginning of a difficult mission to contain the full breadth of car culture from the past into a single video game,” – specifically “everything from the last 150 years of car and racing culture.”

While collecting cars has always been a core tenet to the GT franchise, GT7 is said to be “clearly designed as a ‘Car Collecting Game', even more so than the GT series of the past.”

Other features that have been improved include the photo mode which allows you to “photograph your car freely in photo spots across 43 countries and over 2,500 locations” as well as the return of the Livery Editor.

While simulation racing games have never been my forte, the Grand Turismo franchise is undoubtedly one of the best and most refined franchises in the genre. With GT7 it looks as though Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital are once again going all in, trying to make the best looking racing game possible. Gran Turismo 7 launches on the 4th of March 2022.
