Dead Space remake could restore cut content

Last week during EA Play Live, the Dead Space remake was officially announced, although specific details on what to expect from this new version were kept under wraps. Some new information has come to light this week, with the remake's creative director revealing that we may see restored cut content.

In an interview with IGN, Dead Space creative director, Roman Campos-Oriola, explained that EA Motive has access to all of the original game's assets, including environmental designs that were changed prior to release due to technical restraints. Some of these cut design features and other pieces of content could work their way into the remake.

“We started with the original level design of the original Dead Space. What’s funny is that you can see some of the iterations that were made prior to ship by the team. In the first chapter, you can see some corridors that they wanted to do first in a certain way, and then you can understand why they changed it for technical constraints”.

“Then in terms of visuals, sound, gameplay, everything, we are rebuilding all of these assets. We are not porting them, it’s not uprezzing the texture or adding more polygons to the model. It’s really rebuilding all these elements, shooting all the animations, et cetera.”

Accessibility is also going to be a big area of focus for this remake, with the team hoping to open up “different ways to play the game if you need it”.

Currently, the Dead Space remake does not have a release date and rumours prior to the announcement indicated that the project is still in early development. With that in mind, we could be waiting until 2023 or beyond before getting our hands on the game.

KitGuru Says: It would be interesting to see cut content, or perhaps gameplay improvements introduced in the sequels, brought into the Dead Space remake. So far, the team is saying all the right things – hopefully the end product lives up to the original.
