Battlefield Portal will enable custom games and community-generated content

Over the last couple of years, we’ve heard EA executives make comments about user-generated content, something that always stood out from a publisher that doesn’t openly embrace the modding scene. That will be changing with Battlefield 2042, which has an entire mode built around community-made custom matches and content.

Today during EA Play Live, Battlefield 2042’s next major game mode was revealed, known as Battlefield Portal. This is a community driven platform, allowing players to create their own custom games with the ability to tweak win conditions, restrict weapons, change team ratios and more. Creators will be able to use content from previous Battlefield titles in these custom games too, so expect reimagined/modernised versions of maps, weapons and vehicles from the likes of Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 3 and Bad Company 2.

Some of the returning maps that will be available at launch include:

  • Battle Of The Bulge (Battlefield 1942)
  • El Alamein (Battlefield 1942)
  • Arica Harbor (Battlefield: Bad Company 2)
  • Valparaiso (Battlefield: Bad Company 2)
  • Caspian Border (Battlefield 3)
  • Noshahr Canals (Battlefield 3)

Battlefield Portal has been developed by Triple Effect Studios, formerly known as DICE LA. Better yet, this mode will be available at launch, whereas before, it seemed like it could be coming a little while after release. Battlefield 2042 is launching on the 22nd of October.

KitGuru Says: This mode ended up looking much more fun than I expected. Hopefully over time, DICE hands over more tools and control to the community to come up with more unique ideas and keep this mode fresh.
