Death Stranding: Director’s Cut details and release date revealed

Sony recently held a State of Play, and while the console manufacturer positioned it as being a smaller affair than most previous showcases, there existed a number of rather significant announcements. One such announcement brought the much-requested details of what fans can expect with the Director’s Cut of Death Stranding, as well as its release date.

The trailer for Death Stranding: Director’s Cut revealed that the game would be hitting the PS5 (and seemingly only the PS5) on the 24th of September, and will bring with it “more weapons, equipment and vehicles, a variety of new modes, missions and areas to explore, expanded storylines, and enhancements to the UI” in addition to a new online feature called ‘Friend Play’ and online leaderboards.

All of this new content, including the New Story Missions; New Enemies; Upgraded Melee Combat; Maser Gun; Mounted Machine Guns; Firing Range; Cargo Catapult; Support Skeleton; Buddy Bot; Jump Ramp and Fragile Circuit were said to be “carefully woven into the core game experience and will be made available through discovery as you play.”

Alongside this new content, the game will take advantage of PS5 features such as the DualSense haptics, adaptive trigger resistance, 3D audio, faster load times and two graphics modes – performance mode with upscaled 4K and up to 60FPS or Fidelity Mode in native 4K.

Lastly, it was confirmed that PS4 players will be able to upgrade to the Director’s Cut for $10 and will also offer cross-save between the two generations, meaning that players will not have to replay the whole game again if they do not want to.
