Samsung SoC with AMD RDNA 2 graphics to be revealed next month

During Computex 2021, AMD confirmed that it has been working with Samsung to develop a new mobile SoC with integrated RDNA 2 graphics. We initially thought we would see this new chip later this month, but it looks like Samsung won't be unveiling its new flagship Exynos chip until July.

This new flagship Exynos chip has been in the works for a while, with Samsung first partnering with AMD in 2019. This chip is expected to power the next generation of Samsung Galaxy phones and possibly some laptops too.

Twitter leaker, Ice universe, also suggests Samsung will reveal specific performance details during its event next month. Unfortunately, specifications are currently unknown but thanks to the RDNA 2 GPU, this Exynos chip will support features like ray-tracing and variable rate shading.

Although the Exynos SoCs are developed by Samsung itself, the company does use Qualcomm Snapdragon chips for its devices in certain regions. If this new flagship Exynos can outperform Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon, then perhaps we'll see Exynos chips in Galaxy devices regardless of region.

KitGuru says: There are still a lot of unanswered questions, but it's going to be very interesting to see RDNA 2 graphics on a mobile device. Will AMD and Samsung's partnership take mobile GPU performance to the next level?
