Early benchmarks of Radeon RX 6600M GPU surface

Although the Radeon RX 6600M hasn't been released yet, the first benchmarks of the laptop GPU have started to emerge. Considering the results, the laptop GPU seems to offer a performance level between an RTX 3050 Ti and an RTX 3060 in gaming and content creation.

The performance results were published on Zhihu (via @9550pro), including a GPU-Z screenshot of the laptop GPU and multiple charts comparing the Radeon RX 6600M with other GPUs. All systems were equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and 32GB DDR4-3200 for a fair comparison.

The first set of tests, the full suite of 3DMark benchmarks, put the RTX 3060 and the Radeon RX 6600M at the same level. However, once we go to real-world gaming, the RTX 3060 outperforms the AMD GPU by an average of 9% in 1080p and 13% in 1440p gaming. Comparing ray tracing performance, the difference increases to 36%, which is expected due to Nvidia's superior ray-tracing capabilities.

Using Smartshift leads to an average performance gain of 3.65 percent on the RX 6600M, but note that some games lose performance with this feature enabled.

The mining performance of the Radeon RX 6600M puts it considerably below the RTX 3060. Even the older Radeon RX 5600M is better by about 23%, which should push cryptominers away from laptops using this GPU.

Compared to its predecessors, the Radeon RX 6600M improved in content creation workloads, but not enough to beat the RTX 3060. In some Blender workloads, it even lags behind the RTX 3050 Ti GPU. However, in Specviewperf 2020, it shines in two particular tests, ‘Medical' and ‘Siemens NX'.

KitGuru says: If these early results are accurate, the Radeon RX 6600M is set to be a decent competitor to the RTX 3060 for 1080p gaming.
