Surprise Mario + Rabbids sequel announced

Nintendo and Ubisoft fans were left surprised when the two companies collaborated, with the most famous video game character of all time – Mario – crossing over with Ubisoft’s unlikely mascots, the Rabbids. Almost 4 years after the release of the first game, Ubisoft and Nintendo are collaborating once again for a sequel.

Revealed at the Ubisoft Forward game conference, the publisher revealed Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, a sequel to 2017’s Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle set to launch some time in 2022.

With the first game taking characters across the mushroom kingdom, Sparks of hope takes inspiration from Super Mario Galaxy, taking the characters to new worlds, with the team saying “Cursa, a mysterious and malevolent entity seeks out energy to further its nefarious plans, plunging the galaxy into chaos. Twisting the planets with its evil influence, it’s determined to consume all the energy of the Sparks, uncanny creatures formed by the fusion of Lumas & Rabbids, and destroy all who stand in its way. To bring order back to the galaxy and save the Sparks, Mario and friends team up with Rabbids heroes in a journey through mysterious and ever-surprising planets.”

While a sequel to Kingdom Battle may seem like an unlikely event, Ubisoft revealed that the first game sold over 7.5 million copies, cementing it as an undeniable success. It will be interesting to see how Sparks of Hope evolves this unlikely crossover further.
